Employee engagement
In times of economic downturn it is essential that staff are engaged, motivated and suppported, to provide the best possible contribution to the sucess of their business. In the past, many organisations have been guilty of not applying the same level of development and attention to their support staff as they would to the staff delivering core services. As a result there is often a feeling of disengagement within non core support departments who feel they are under valued.
As outsourcing providers, the teams that deliver our services onsite are a vital component of our business and have the greatest influence on our ultimate success. Ensuring that our teams are fully equipped and challenged to provide exceptional service is therefore a key aspect to our management ethos and business approach.
In September 2008 The Lawyer magazine published results of the first ever employee engagement survey amongst UK law firms which included the attitudes of support departments alongside fee earners. The results make interesting reading when compared with results taken from the annual Intelligent Office team climate survey:
- Only 36% of business support staff surveyed who are employed directly by law firms feel valued, versus 85% of Intelligent Office staff who feel valued and appreciated.
- Only 41% of business support staff surveyed who are employed directly by law firms understand the firm's plans, versus 82% of Intelligent Office staff who feel they understand Intelligent Office's plans and objectives.
- Overall only 49% of support staff surveyed who are employed directly by law firms feel satisfied with their roles within the firm, versus an overall Intelligent Office staff satisfaction of 77%.
These results underline our commitment and success to the development of our staff across all levels of the business. To assist with this ongoing process we have 4 key values which inform our approach at every stage and are reinforced through our actions at all times, whether communicating to those within the business or to the wider market:
- Teamwork
- Integrity
- Passion
- Success
